How clean is your house?

If you’re putting your house on the market, moving out, or just moved in, it’s time for a good old spring clean! It can be hard to find the time (or motivation) for a really thorough clean up. Getting orgainsed is the key, so here are a few ideas that we hope will inspire you to get re-acquainted with the skirting boards!

  1. Make a date with each room. If you haven’t had a big clean up for a while, tackling it all at once will seem a bit daunting. So grab the calendar and set a time to take on each room.
  2. Be decisive. Sort things into piles for: keeping, throwing away, giving away, recycling or selling. Then do it. Moving things into another room or ferreting them away in little boxes doesn’t count!
  3. Stay focussed. It’s easy to get distracted by a pile of old photos, but limit yourself to the time it takes to have a cup of tea, then move on.
  4. Be brutal. In the kitchen, ditch the out of date ingredients that you only ever used for one recipe, the same goes for Granny’s old mugs that you never use! And the rule of thumb with clothes is that if you haven’t worn it for a year, you’re not likely to.
  5. Stay clutter free. The key to a tidy home is storage. Make proper use of cabinets, bookshelves and cupboards. It will make life much easier if documents (like your home contents insurance and buildings insurance certificates) are filed neatly.

Now that you’ve sorted out your home, it’s a good time to check your contents insurance is up to scratch.

Privilege’s home contents insurance cover is what’s known as ‘new-for-old’, which means that if you make a claim, we won’t just give you today’s value for items that might be a few years old now, we’ll replace them with brand new ones right to your door (where possible).

You’ve done the dirty work, now put your feet up and get a contents insurance quote online.
