Make a little effort to lose a lot less
energy
As a home insurance provider, we know that most people would like to save money on their household and utility bills, like home insurance. And thanks to the National Insulation Association (NIA), we also know that by insulating walls, lofts, windows and other draughts, you could save up to 48% on your fuel bill.
But saving energy doesn’t just come down to good insulation, if every home in the UK replaced just three standard light bulbs with energy saving ones, it would save enough energy to light UK streets for a year.
And there are other ways you can make your home more energy-efficient:
- Switch off TVs, DVDs and computers instead of leaving them on standby.
- Fit draught excluders around doors and windows that aren’t double glazed.
- Wait until you have a full load before using your dishwasher or washing machine.
- Only heat the rooms you’re using.
- Fit an insulating jacket over the hot water tank.
- Lower your central heating by one degree (incredibly, this can equal 10% less fuel consumption).
- Put your central heating and hot water on a timer.
Just by changing a few old light-bulbs (and a few old habits), you could easily make your home more energy-efficient and save money on your gas and electricity bills this year.
