Breakdown advice

What to do if your car breaks down?

Whatever car you drive, from an old classic to an old banger, there's always a chance it will break down. Here's what to do if you find yourself in a spot of bother.

  1. Seek help straightaway.
  2. Pull as far off the road as you can and switch on your hazard lights.
  3. Make sure your children are safe - don't leave them in the car alone.
  4. Leave any animals in the car, with windows only far enough down to let in air.
  5. Call Privilege from your car, mobile or nearest phone using the freephone
number shown on your Breakdown Certificate.
  6. Depending on how safe you feel, stay in the car or stand on the verge.
